The University Center for the Arts Contributes to Local Economy

The Colorado State University Department of Music is thrilled to bring this event to Fort Collins.  “Prior to the opening of the Griffin Concert Hall and the completion of the $46 million University Center for the Arts facility this summer, hosted events such as the State Concert Band Festival were not feasible for us,” says J. Steven Moore, Director of Bands at CSU.

"Along with the new facility, the addition of outstanding faculty over the last seven years has brought tremendous growth to the program, resulting in national and international recognition of CSU as a leader in quality music education.  We are honored that the Colorado Bandmasters Association recognizes these advancements and is partnering with CSU for the Festival.”

The investment into facilities such as the University Center for the Arts and Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium has also brought the 2006 and 2007 State Marching Band Competition and the annual All-State Choir to the campus.

Along with these events, next year’s Colorado/Wyoming National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition will be held at the University Center for the Arts, showcasing CSU students, faculty, and the facility.

Dr. Michael Thaut, Co-Executive Director of the School of the Arts at Colorado State University, in a recent interview conducted by Beet Street, said “It's not just the cultural aspect [we’re building], it's a huge economic aspect.  Some of the major events we have hosted a few years in a row now, for instance, the State Marching Band Championships, have brought 10,000 to 15,000 people from the whole state for four days.

[With the] State Concert Band Championships, we have busloads of high schools and parents.  Not as big as the Marching Band, but a few thousand.  We have 3.000-4,000 kids, teachers and parents here for the All State Choir Festival from Grand Junction, Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Denver.  We have calculated hundreds of thousands of dollars, probably in the millions that the School of the Arts brings into the community.”
