Please join the Colorado State University Alumni Association for an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience to thank you for being a member of the Alumni Association.

Member Dessert Reception
1:30-2:30 p.m. 
Schlessman Lobby, Leprino Atrium 1st Level of the Museum

Annual members and life members come together for a decadent dessert reception with the “Best View in Denver” from the 1st Level of the Museum. Enjoy refreshments, the company of other alumni and hear a brief presentation on “The State of the Association” from a CSU Alumni Association Executive Director Colleen Meyer. Then, enjoy an expert presentation from CSU’s own alumni curators at the museum: Dr. Nicole Garneau, PhD, Chair of Health Sciences Department and Curator of Human Health; and Dr. Joe Sertich, PhD, Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology.

Following the reception, Dr. Garneau and Dr. Sertich will lead behind-the-scenes excursions into the private areas of the museum, where members can touch 120,000-year-old dinosaur bones from the Snowmass dig that never fossilized and get a glimpse into revolutionary human health research. Please sign up for one tour in advance of the event as we have limited space.

About Joe Sertich

Dr. Joseph Sertich completed a Biological Science, Zoology and Geology triple-major at Colorado State University in 2004, prior to completing his PhD at Stony Brook University.

Currently the Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Museum of Nature and Science, Dr. Sertich is a vertebrate paleontologist who looks at the effects of global changes, like climate and shifting continents, on the evolution of dinosaurs and crocodiles. During the Mesozoic, shifting continents and fluctuating sea levels created a dynamic global system, influencing the distribution of animals and the evolution of terrestrial ecosystems. New fossil discoveries in western North America, Madagascar, and Africa are the focus of his research.

With an expertise in crocodile and dinosaur evolution, Dr. Sertich is currently working on projects in Egypt, Kenya, Madagascar, Antartica and the Kaiparowits Basin, Utah.

About Nicole Garneau

Dr. Nicole Garneau graduated with a Microbiology PhD from Colorado State University in 2009.

Dr. Garneau has an expertise in genetics, and currently holds the role as the Curator and Department Chair, Health Sciences for the Museum of Nature and Science.

Dr. Garneau's research focuses on the way a person's DNA affects their ability to taste, and therefore their food choices and diet. The data from her research will improve our understanding of how evolution has helped us adapt as a species in order to survive, and also explain the effects of taste evolution on modern day humans. She is an advocate for women in science and making science relevant through engaging communication and outreach in the community.
