Research on disease in bison and elk

The CSU Student Chapter of the Wildlife Disease Association is hosting Paul Cross, Ph.D. on Tuesday, Nov. 10 for a seminar on wildlife disease research he is involved with in Montana.

Paul Cross is a wildlife disease ecologist at the Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center in Bozeman, Montana. Most of his research focuses on ungulates, primarily elk and bison, in Yellowstone National Park.

In particular, his work aims to better understand:

- How brucellosis and chronic wasting disease are transmitted within and among populations

- How these diseases affect host populations

- How artificial feeding practices, like those seen on the Jackson Hole feedgrounds in Wyoming, affect the prevalence of these diseases in elk
