Aries Composers Festival – New Music Concert VI
Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 07:30 PM
Griffin Concert Hall, University Center for the Arts

CSU’s large ensembles close out the stunning series of Aries Festival concerts with works by award-winning American composers in the new concert music genre.

The orchestra, conducted by Wes Kenney, performs works by festival guest Stephen Paulus, hailed as “…a bright, fluent inventor with a ready lyric gift.” (The New Yorker). American Passions “is powerful yet reflective and a true pyro-technical challenge for the ensemble,” said Kenney.

The Wind Ensemble presents Alex Shapiro’s Immersion, bringing listeners on a sonic journey into a private, aquatic realm; Joseph Eidson’s Upon a Dark Horizon, music inspired by NASA’s Deep Impact mission to send a probe to explore the interior of a comet; and Josh Hummell’s A New Splendor Arises, a piece based on sacred text exulting in the joy of the birth of Christ.

Followed by a Meet the Artist Reception sponsored by Great Harvest Bread Co., Mugs Coffee Lounge and Whole Foods.
