Women's Studies Colloquium with Judith Simmer Brown Please join us on Friday September 29 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Room 203-5. Professor Judith Simmer Brown, Professor of Religious Studies at Naropa University, will be discussing: "Dakini Wisdom: The Feminine Principle in Tibetan Buddhism." The nonconceptual wisdom at the heart of the Buddhist tradition is called the "wisdom gone-beyond" and derives from the Prajnaparamita-sutras of India. In Tibet, this tradition is symbolized by a fiercely beautiful feminine deity called the dakini, who appears to the solitary meditator in order to awaken this inborn wisdom. Stories of dakini encounters are beloved in Tibet, and serve as allegories of meditation experience. For more information, contact the Office of Women's Programs and Studies at 491-6384. |
