Men’s Choir and Women’s Choir Performance
The Colorado State University Men’s Choir and Women’s Choir will perform music from around the world on Friday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Griffin Concert Hall of the University Center for the Arts at 1400 Remington Street. The Women’s Choir will perform selections from the Italian composer Verdi and the Russian composer Chesnokov. The Men’s Choir will entertain with selections of German music. The two choirs will combine for a performance of Mozart’s Missa Brevis in F in celebration of the composer’s 250th birthday. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for the general public, plus a small campus box office service charge, and can be purchased by calling (970) 491-4TIX or at www.csutix.com. Performances are popular and advance purchase is highly recommended. The CSU Men’s Choir is a group of 25 to 40 men singing various repertoire ranging from classical music to musicals, glee-club and mixed SATB repertoire in the joint concert with the Women’s Choir.  Men’s Choir also performs at sporting events, alumni receptions, and other school-related events in addition to presenting their own concerts each semester. The CSU Women’s Choir is a group of 50 to 75 women who performs classical repertoire as well as non-classical repertoire. Both Men’s and Women’s Choir are featured at the annual All-Choral Holiday Concert which will be held this year on December 2. The Men’s Choir and Women’s Choir are directed by Dr. James Kim, Director of Choral Studies at Colorado State. Kim received his degrees from University of Southern California (B.M., M.M.) and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (D.M.A.). After earning two degrees from USC, James Kim was invited by the Internationale Backakademie Stuttgart to study with Helmuth Rilling for two years. During the summers of 2000 and 2002, he was selected as an assistant conductor for the Opera Theater of Lucca held in Lucca, Italy. During the 2001-02 season, he had served as the Interim Artistic Director for the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. Prior to joining the faculty at Colorado State University, Dr. Kim taught conducting at University of Cincinnati and at Simpson College.
