"Jazz Classics" Concert

The Colorado State University Jazz Ensembles are thrilled to present the annual "Jazz Classics" Concert on Thursday, Nov. 30, 7:30 p.m. at the University Center for the Arts at 1400 Remington Street, Fort Collins.

The concert includes performances by Jazz Ensemble I under the direction of Peter Sommer, and Jazz Ensemble II under the direction of Shilo Stroman.  This fun evening consists of music from the library of Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton, as well as modern arrangement of jazz standards such as Georgia On My Mind,  Skylark and Donna Lee.

The CSU Jazz Ensembles are traditional big bands, featuring saxophones, brass and rhythm sections.  Also featured on this concert will be the CSU Vocal Jazz Ensembles under the direction of Suzanne Morrison.

Jazz programs have been popular this fall at CSU.  In October the Jazz Ensembles played with special guest artists from Germany, the Big Band from the University of Applied Arts and Sciences at Heidelberg.  Attendees were delighted, left smiling and wanting more.  Don’t miss the opportunity to smile and tap your toe again!

Students in the CSU Jazz Ensembles are exposed to exciting yet educational arrangements of classics from composers like Ellington and Kenton with a healthy mixture of contemporary choices. 

In addition to its two regular concerts each semester at the University Center for the Arts, Jazz Ensemble I also performs at jazz festivals and gives clinics at local schools in the region.

Tickets are $5 for CSU students and $8 for the general public, plus a small campus box office service charge.  Tickets can be purchased by calling 970-491-4TIX or at www.csutix.com.  Visa and MasterCard accepted. Performances are popular and advance purchase is highly recommended.
