Department of Music Annual Holiday Brass Quintet Concert ![]() The Colorado State University Music Department Brass faculty will present an evening of holiday music on Monday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Griffin Concert Hall of the University Center for the Arts at 1400 Remington Street in Fort Collins. The program features special arrangements of holiday brass favorites performed by David Shaner, Trumpet; Zachery Timbrell, Graduate Student, Trumpet; Matt Scheffelman, Horn; Gregory Harper, Trombone; Robert Brewer, Tuba. Also featured on the program will be members of the CSU Percussion Ensemble. Tickets for this popular evening are $4 for students and $7 for the general public, plus a small campus box office service charge. Tickets can be purchased by calling 970-491-4TIX or at www.csutix.com. Performances are popular and advance purchase is highly recommended. Dr. David Shaner is Associate Professor of Trumpet. He earned his B.M.E. at Murray State College, his M.M. degree in trumpet performance at Memphis State University, and his D.M.A. in trumpet performance at the University of Iowa. He has taught in public schools in Missouri and Kentucky and in colleges in Kentucky, Iowa, and Colorado. Dr. Shaner is active as a trumpet soloist as well as a symphony and chamber musician. CSU's Assistant Professor of Horn, Matthew Scheffelman, performs around the world as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. Mr. Scheffelman studied at the Harid Conservatory (now Lynn University) in Florida with the great horn player, Arthur Brooks. While doing further studies in New York at the Purchase Conservatory of Music, Matthew won the New York Times Concerto Competition (1995) and performed the R. Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1 with the New York Youth Symphony at the Isaac Stern Hall of Carnegie Hall. Dr. Robert Brewer is Associate Professor of Tuba/Euphonium and Conductor of the CSU Symphonic Band. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in Tuba Performance from the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign. He serves as Principal Tuba with the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra and the CSU Faculty Brass Quintet.
